I was going to choose the VT-ECU game, but because it starts in like half an hour, I'm going to replace it with the Army@Air Force game instead. Game Day is there, Veteran's Day is next week, and quite frankly, nobody knows what could happen with that many options.
Maryland @ NCSU (-6.5)
These two teams have horrible records. Half of the Terps' wins are against us. NCSU showed last week they can still score points, while Maryland is just bad. I'll take the Pack to win and win big.
Wake @ GT (-15.5)
Wake was a Deacon sideburns hair away from beating Miami last week. Not good enough, and PJ with the 3O will win this one. I even think they cover.
Duke @ UNC (-10)
A win here and Duke plays Wake for the NC state title. This game would have been laughable at the beginning of the season, then laughable the other way before the VT upset. Weird. Heels win, but Duke covers.
Ohio St @ Penn St (-4)
Wow, those Vegas folks know how to set a line. Any higher and I'd take the Buckeyes to cover. But not at for. Lions win and cover.
Oklahoma (-5) @ Nebraska
I remember when this game mattered. Sooners win by two touchdowns.
Navy @ Notre Dame (-12)
I was all set to pick the Midshipmen before the Temple Owls beat them (and become bowl eligible! Temple is bowl eligible but Clemson, FSU, and UGa all are not yet!). Notre Dame wins, but it's close. Navy covers.
Army @ Air Force (-17)
Remember what I said about not knowing what happens with that many options? I was lying. Air Force wins and covers with that many options.
Oregon (-7) @ Stanford
People keep asking if this is Oregon's trap game. The answer is no. Ducks win, and they continue swimming in their money bin. Oregon for president!
South Carolina @ Arkansas (-7)
This is the last game on the Gamecocks' schedule that they might win. They are just not beating UF and they matchup poorly physically an psychologically with us. Arky is a team that played its best games in losses to UGa and UF, while I am down on SoCar, they do have a signature win. I will take the Hogs to win, because they're at home, but it's close and comes down to the wire and the bad guys cover.
LSU @ Alabama (-7.5)
This is a play-in game for the SEC title in the West, which, in turn, is a play-in for the national title. I still think that Les Miles is kind of an idiot who has an otherworldy talent for recruiting while Nick Saban is an evil genius who might have sold the blood of his children to Azrael or some other demon in exchange for Game Genie style power ups. I think they win in a game that will be like 9-3. Tigers cover.
FSU @ Clemson (-9)
Man, it felt good to write that. This is almost for a spot at Tampa. If we win, our bags are practically packed, not to mention squatting on the parts of Florida that Urban Meyer is finished with. I like our chances in this one; FSU is a lot like a crappier version of Miami. If NCSU can stay within 3, I think we can handle our business. Tigers by a TD.
UMD-NCSU: NCSU (NCSU)
ReplyDeleteWake-GT: GT (GT)
Duke-UNC: UNC (Duke)
OSU-PSU: PSU (PSU)
OU-Nebraska: OU (OU)
Navy-ND: ND (Navy)
Army-AF: AF (AF)
Oregon-Stanford: Oregon (Oregon)
SoCar-Arky: Arky (SoCar)
LSU-Bama: Bama (LSU)
FSU-Clemson: Clemson (FSU)
Maryland @ NCSU (-6.5)
ReplyDeleteI think NCSU wins and covers.
Wake @ GT (-15.5)
I think Wake surprised GT, they don't win, but GT doesn't cover.
Duke @ UNC (-10)
Duke upsets UNC, making Cutcliffe a national hero.
Ohio St @ Penn St (-4)
PSU wins, covers, and I hate OSU.
Oklahoma (-5) @ Nebraska
Probably Oklahoma. Covers too.
Navy @ Notre Dame (-12)
Notre Dame wins and covers.
Army @ Air Force (-17)
I pray for the families of the dead and injured during the Fort Hood massacre today. An unimaginable tragedy on American soil will give the United States Army football team more heart than any other team out there. Air Force plays a respectful game, and the Army wins.
Oregon (-7) @ Stanford
Stanford upsets the Quackers.
South Carolina @ Arkansas (-7)
Arky wins and covers.
LSU @ Alabama (-7.5)
This is a big game. I like Bama to win out. They win, cover, and take the momentum into the rest of the season.
FSU @ Clemson (-9)
Bobby Bowden and Mickey Andrews are leaving at a similar time it looks like... A sad day for the FSU faithful. FSU takes away Clemson's chances at making it to Tampa. Go noles! FSU upsets the Tiggers!
Maryland @ NCSU (-6.5) NCState’s defense seems to have given up for the season; their secondary is just abysmal. However, UMd doesn’t have a passing game that can exploit this weakness, and can’t protect the QB from NCSU’s nice pass rushing end Young. Picking NCState to show up for a week, winning and covering.
ReplyDeleteWake @ GT (-15.5) Ga Tech’s offense is operating on a different level, cranking out 56 last week on Vandy (doubt UF scores that much this week). Wake Forest has a nasty habit of playing at the level of their competition. Look for GT to give up a few points while scoring at will. GT wins, Wake Covers.
Duke @ UNC (-10) Duke has definitely turned the corner, and is well on its way to becoming the new Wake. UNC stuffs the run, but success in the run game is not a prerequisite for Duke success (116th in run ypg). Meanwhile, UNC’s offense just hasn’t been that good. Plus, I hate UNC (especially after last week). So I’ll pick Duke to win, only partly out of spite.
Ohio St @ Penn St (-4) Ugh, I’m kind of sick of these teams. Ohio State is like VT-north, with strong D, sporadic O, conservative game plans and mobile QBs. I like the development of PSUs linebackers, who will contain Pryor’s scrambling. Penn St wins and covers at home.
Oklahoma (-5) @ Nebraska I really like Nebraska earlier this season, as their D is quite good, and Offense was good enough. But losing to Iowa St is unforgiveable. Oklahoma rolls, winning and covering.
Navy @ Notre Dame (-12) I was primed to pick Navy here, and I tend not to put too much stock in the Temple loss. But the more I think about it, the more I lean to ND here. ND wins, Navy covers.
Army @ Air Force (-17) Can’t believe this spread is 17. These will be two defenses who know each other’s systems thoroughly, and ought to play disciplined assignment football. Air Force will win, but Army covers.
Oregon (-7) @ Stanford Don’t see Oregon losing this one, though a letdown is possible after a huge win last week. I like Kelly’s ability to motivate, and think Oregon continues to roll, Oregon wins and covers.
South Carolina @ Arkansas USC lives and dies with Garcia. But he’s kind of unpredictable. I’ll go with South Carolina to win and cover here.
LSU @ Alabama (-7.5) Bama wins! Bama covers! Just can’t see LSU’s offense getting much momentum against the Tide. Bama running game grinds it out, Tide wins by 14.
FSU @ Clemson (-9) Here’s the thing: every time I pick a Clemson game, the opposite happens. I think Ponder is a fantastic QB. I think Clemson wins by limiting the damage Parker can cause them. I didn’t think Parker had enough to keep up with Miami, and he proved me wrong then (although Clemson had two non-offensive scores to keep them in the game). I still wonder if Parker can overcome a real deficit when the defense knows he must pass. I’m picking Florida State to win and cover.
Ok, big week this week, and I'll be on the move for most of it, so I'll try to keep this short.
ReplyDeleteUMD-NCSU. NCSU really impressed me with their game against FSU. I didn't know they had that much talent on offense. They win and win big.
Wake-GT: As much as FSU needs GTech to lose, it's just not going to happen. Paul Johnson's offense is just too good.
Duke-UNC. UNC has a suprisingly good team, as long as their offense performs. Duke, not so much. UNC and big.
OSU-PSU: THE Ohio State University is VERY overrated. The Lions of the state of Pennsylvania and big.
OU-Nebraska. Nebraska is going to find out just how far it still has left to go. On a side note: why don't they move Oklahoma to the North, so the Big 12 Championship game is actually competitive again?
Navy-ND: Navy showed some cracks in its blue-gold veneer last week losing to Temple. I thought they were better. I think Notre Dame is as well, and they win, but it's close.
Army-AF: Ah, playing the Damn Zoomies in Colorado Springs. How come the Army gets the Hudson Highlands, and the AF gets freaking Colorado Springs? Seriously, Highland Falls had one traffic light. But I digress. Army comes out pumped and actually holds on to the ball to win a close one against AF.
Oregon-Stanford: Oregon proved last week how scary good they are. Stanford will get to witness it firsthand. This will not be pretty.
SoCar-Arky. Hmm... I'll go with Spurrier to avenge last week's trouncing here.
LSU-Bama. LSU has no offense. The Tide will roll all day.
FSU-Clemson. FSU can turn its season around with a win against Clemson, not to mention keep their slim ACC title hopes alive. I don't think Mikey's announcement will do anything, partly because I swear I remember him saying this was his last year before the season even started. FSU steps up and wins a shootout.
