There are not many amazing match-ups during week one, but there are certainly some serious games to watch. And they will all be interesting because quite honestly, NASCAR and MLB is not cutting it. It is FOOTBALL time.
Thursday's Games
South Carolina v. So Miss - South Carolina and the ol' ball coach come out swinging in their first appearance of the 2010 schedule. Steve Spurrier is going to have a decent year with one of his easiest SEC schedules in recent history.
#15 Pittsburgh v. Utah - I think Utah has the advantage in this match-up simply because Pittsburgh is always overrated and I don't care for Dave Wannstedt. I think Utah pulls the upset here.
Friday's Games
None that matter
Saturday's Games
#4 UF v. Miami (OH) - John Brantley will likely put up 42 points on his own. This game is the coming out party for the Gators' return to the SEC championship game. I would not be a bit surprised to see the Gators go undefeated this year. Of course, that Alabama game will be the THE game. UF wins, covers, and then some.
Northwestern v. Vanderbilt - This is an interesting game that should make for some exciting football. Vandy is without coach Bobby Johnson and must come together under an assistant. The question becomes, will the team show up? I guess that they will. I think we'll be hearing things about Vandy this year. Vandy wins in the upset.
Purdue v. Notre Dame - Notre Dame the big underdogs in this one. I wouldn't give 10 points to any team playing the Irish, except for maybe USC. I think the Catholics play hard, and keep it close. Purdue wins, but on a last minute FG.
Connecticut v. Michigan - I hope UConn demolished Rich Rodriguez and the Overrated Wolverines. UConn by 5.
Kentucky @ Louisville - Charlie Strong has his first crack at the head-coaching slot. He comes out in a big way and takes it to the Wildcats. Big East makes a statement against the SEC here.
North Texas v. Clemson - This is on here for Brandon only. Clemson wins. By 2 dozen.
Samford v. FSU - FSU wins by 3 touchdowns. Go Noles!
San Jose State v. #1 Bama - Bama Bama Bama Bama. Ramma Jamma Yella Hamma give em hell Alabama! Alabama might repeat this year. And they will win by at least 5 touchdowns.
#24 OSU v. #6 TCU - This is one of the better games of the weekend and I like the Beavers. I think OSU takes the Horny Toads to school in a big upset win that keeps OSU relevant this season.
#21 LSU v. #18 UNC - I would've said UNC, but they have lost like 20 players to suspensions. So LSU wins and wins big.
Monday's Game
#3 Boise State v. #10 Va Tech - Hokies will absolutely destroy the Broncs in this one. It will be a sad day for BSU. They will never be mentioned in the National Championship discussion again. But Va Tech will.
I am a little upset that the FSU game is not on here. I always find that to be a note worthy game! ( :
ReplyDeleteI am too late for the Thursday games, but here goes for Saturday:
ReplyDeleteUF over Miami (OH). Duh.
Northwestern over Vandy. Vandy will be lucky to win a game; NW took Auburn to OT in their bowl that was entertaining, yet puzzling.
ND over Purdue. Purdue is not a good football team.
Michigan over UConn. Don't really have a good explanation. I think that RichRod is a good coach, even if he is a terrible human being.
Kentucky over Louisville. The Cards are awful. Kentucky might be the third best team in the SEC East this year.
Clemson over North Texas. UNT won 2 games last year.
FSU over Samford. Samford has a football team?
Bama over SJSU. Duh.
TCU over OSU. One of the best mascot matchups ever, I do have a crush on TCU, though.
LSU over UNC. I think LSU would win if UNC had all their personnel, too.
VPI over Boise. The Hokies are going to be really good. I think they have the potential to go undefeated this year and play Ohio State in the title game.
I'm too late for Thursday, as well.
ReplyDeleteBut here goes:
UF over Miami (OH). I still think the Gators lose three games this year, but this won't be one of them.
Vandy over Northwestern. If this game was played in mid-November, I would have gone the other way.
Purdue over Notre Dame. The Irish's problems are talent-based, not coaching-based, and they didn't get any better from last year.
UConn over Michigan. Combine the immense pressure to win with Michigan's habit of starting slow, I think the Huskies pull this one out.
Kentucky over the Ville. As a former resident of Louvole, I can tell you that the Cardinals are nothing to write home about, even against a mediocre SEC team.
Clemson over NT. Seriously?
FSU over Samford. Super Seriously? But if anything, don't watch for the score, watch for the show Ponder puts on.
The Tide over SJSU. This is getting ridiculous. Who says there's no preseason in college ball.
TCO over Oklahoma. The exposure of the Big 12(-) continues.
LSU over UNC. There are ACC teams that can easily take down SEC teams. The Heels are not one of them.
BSU over VT. I like the Hokies, I really do. But what the Broncos have done out in Boise is simply astounding, and I'm so happy the nation is finally going to see it all year long. Watch these guys.
CORRECTION:
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I thought OSU for TCU v. OSU was Oklahoma State. It's Oregon State, but it still doesn't change my pick. TCU rolls.
